Blackwell Short Lawyers Pty Ltd was founded in July 2006 by George Blackwell and Anthony Short, who are directors along with Alison Neville. Charles Henley joined as a director in July 2024. The firm is one of the biggest in the Central West of NSW and serves Orange and the surrounding region. In November 2021, it merged with Peter Boyd Solicitors, whose principal had a legal career of over 45 years.
The firm provides legal advice across conveyancing and property, wills and estate planning, business law, family law, estate administration, litigation, criminal law, rural succession planning, compensation claims, public notary and collaborative practice. It is one of the few firms in Orange with two public notaries. Liability is limited by a scheme approved under Professional Standards Legislation.

When the builder of my house in Dubbo NSW refused to repair the defective house he had built for me and tried to blame ME for the slab heave by accusing me of overwatering the grass, I lawyered up and sought the advice of John Carpenter from Blackwell Short. Around 18 months later, John had secured me a great result where the engineers who designed the defective slab purchased the home back off me at market value and reimbursed me for all my legal expenses, expert reports, stamp duty on a new home, removal costs etc. We were able to get this fantastic result without having to go through the full court process which was ideal. John worked with me every step of the way to achieve this result and was both flexible and accommodating with regards to payment since legal services do not come cheap. I highly recommend Blackwell Short and will be forever grateful for their assistance in achieving justice for me and my family.
