About the company

RMB Lawyers was founded in 1885 by Charles Coffee Russell in Wollongong and has over 135 years of history. The firm operates 18 offices across New South Wales and employs over 100 staff across 10 divisions. It provides family law services. In 2008, RMB Lawyers merged with Morton & Harris, giving it a strong presence in the Shoalhaven.

It was the first legal firm in New South Wales to gain Law 9000 accreditation and was named Regional Law Firm of the Year at the 2015 Australian Law Awards. RMB Lawyers' liability is limited by a scheme approved under Professional Standards Legislation.

What customers say

Based on genuine customer reviews

Conveyancing, employment matters, estate planning and general legal work brought to this Nowra practice are handled by a team whose professionalism recurs across feedback, with clients recalling solicitors who stayed available for discussions over matters spanning several years. Named staff feature in the praise, with Trudi singled out for her help through a difficult period and Martin acknowledged for his commitment to a lengthy matter. More than one review highlights fees that seemed affordable for the work carried out.

Balanced against this, a common theme in the lower ratings is contact that was never returned and appointments that were never arranged, with people describing a lack of follow-through after they had supplied their details. Others note insufficient communication and support when circumstances became time critical, along with billing that appeared out of step with the direction received. Immigration matters, personal injury claims and superannuation advice also appear among the services described. The accounts reflect a practice where the individual attention of particular solicitors is valued, while the consistency of client service across the firm is a frequent source of frustration.

We were very satisfied clients of our firm, Pottenger & McGhee Solicitors, which was acquired by RMB Lawyers in 2021. Until recently we had been clients of RMB Lawyers for several years. We have now left the firm as we were terribly disappointed by a poor customer service experience, which was strikingly different to how we have previously been treated by Pottenger & McGhee. RMB Lawyers failed to provide support in a time critical situation (which could have been handled with a five minute phone call), and we progressed to making an internal complaint. Unfortunately the complaint was investigated and concluded by one of the individuals that the complaint was about. No accountability nor integrity will be found when issues are raised with this firm. The firms clear priority is to make money and protect itself, rather than have productive conversations to resolve client concerns. They do not value client feedback.

Avoid RMB Lawyers! They charged over $1,000 for an initial consultation despite their website saying it would be free. I paid the invoice because it stated that interest would be charged at 5% per day if it were not paid within 14 days and then at 10% per day after 30 days (see picture) !!! I requested a solicitor meeting to get advice wrt my recently deceased partner's estate. The solicitor did not appear to have read any of the background documents I sent. He declined to answer most of my questions and advised me to seek legal advice - which is what I thought I was doing! He was only interested in signing me up to a $7,500 service contract to submit a probate application that I had already prepared. Other firms I assessed typically charge between $1200 and $1800 to prepare a probate application from scratch. I would give negative stars if I could.

If I could give less than one star I would, you’re absolutely disgusting and the way my family was treated by this business was appalling! Go here if you want a huge bill and zero answers or direction

Had RMB deal with a matter, found them completely professional, and available when we needed to discuss matters, their rates were also very affordable. Hope I never need them again, but if I do, I will use their services.
